!±8± 3 Smart Ways to Clear Sore Throats

Have you ever been stuck with an awful sore throat for a few days? If you have, it is an uncomfortable and unbearable experience to have. One of the cheapest and easiest way to treat a sore throat is by gargling warm salt water in your mouth for about one or two minutes. The salt water acts as disinfectant which help clean or kill any bacteria in your mouth. The salt warm water acts as a relaxant to your muscles and tissues in your mouth and throat. It will help ease the pain in your throat.

2. Use a humidifier with eucalyptus oil in it

If you have a humidifier, you can use it to clear your throat. Simply add eucalyptus oil into the humidifier and breathe into it. If you don't have a humidifier, simply get a big bowl of hot water and then add eucalyptus oil into it. Then get a blanket and cover it all over your body. Once you have done so, simple get the bowl of big water and place it inside your blanket so your breathing the fumes into your lungs. Be careful of the hot water. This will help clear your lungs out and make you breathe better!

3. Do constant deep breathing exercises

Sore throats can be result of narrow airways in your lungs and nasal cavity. Hence, you should exercise your lungs and airways so that air can travel better into your body. There are several ways to do deep breathing exercises. The simplest one is called deep breathing and coughing.

To start this exercise, first sit up right as much as you can. This is because air can travel better into your lungs than lying down. Generally, it is always better when standing upright. Second, you should take a big deep breath as much as you can and hold for at least 20 seconds. You should do this at least three times.

Then lastly after you have taken a deep breath 3 times, you should give two big double barrel coughs. This will help clear out any mucus or muck congesting your airways. Repeat this 5 times until your breathing and sore throat gets better!

De-humidify Immediately for a Safer Home - Your Children Will Thank You

!±8± De-humidify Immediately for a Safer Home - Your Children Will Thank You

Many parents are unknowingly putting their children at risk by allowing them to play in areas of the home where mildew may be present.

Being noisy, overly energetic creatures children are often relegated to the basement. Many a weary mother thinks of the basement playroom as the next best thing to a nanny. But, by doing this you may be placing them in the part of the home that is the dampest. You wouldn't work in a mildewed office, so why expect your children to play where mold lives.

What to do =======================

Therefore, if you find the basement damp a de-humidifier may be an inexpensive solution to this problem.

A de-humidifier is somewhat of a crossbreed. It is a mixture of a refrigerator and an air conditioner. It is designed to do only one thing - remove moisture from the air. No other appliance can do this as well.

It is similar to an air conditioner because both will remove moisture from the room air. But while an air conditioner cools the room, a dehumidifier will actually add heat the room as it works. So at those times of the year when the room feels damp but the room temperature is already cool, the dehumidifier becomes king.

It is somewhat of a niche product. But, for anyone with a damp room or basement it can be an appliance worth its weight in gold.

Symptoms of excess humidity ===========

Too much moisture in a room can leave the air feeling uncomfortable. It can even cause wood to swell and crack, harming any furniture, tables, or wooden items. Irreplaceable family treasures such as stored clothing, photograph albums, pictures, and books can be permanently damaged. Walls and floors (including carpets) can take on too much moisture. Even metal is affected - primarily by rusting prematurely.

Without a de-humidifier there is an increased possibility of mold and mildew building up on the walls. Both have been linked to the increased incidence of asthma, especially in children. Adding a de-humidifier to the home may help your children in later years.

They do require some work on your part. That is, you have to empty the water collection bucket. Make sure the one you obtain has a light to indicate when the bucket is full. It is easy to forget that at certain times of the year this may have to be done every few days. The indicator light quickly reminds you.

Also make sure it comes with a spigot at the bottom of the drain pan. This is a threaded nozzle at the rear of the machine that empties into the water bucket. Some models have a hose connection attached to the water bucket itself - this works just as well. It allows a drain hose (an old piece of a lawn hose) to be attached. This eliminates the need for the bucket. It will drain the water into the hose, which can be directed into a floor drain.

Make it fully automatic ================

While most people leave them on the floor, some consumers install the de-humidifier above a sink to allow for easy draining. The over the sink method works but limits their usage to one area. Also regular maintenance such as cleaning the filter becomes difficult. Simply leaving the de-humidifier on the floor is usually more convenient. Plus it allows it to be quickly moved to others rooms, if required.

With a lawn hose added for draining, the distance between de-humidifier and drain hole becomes virtually unlimited. Remember water will always flow downhill. Therefore if the drain hole is lower than the drain spigot on the de-humidifier the water will run down the hose.

If unsure of spigot to floor drain levels, pour water into the de-humidifier end of hose while slowly raising hose into the air. Keep raising hose until water drains out the lower end. (This may take a couple of tries because the hose must be full of water for it to work). The level at which the water runs out is how high above floor level the de-humidifier end of the hose must be raised to ensure proper drainage. Once done the de-humidifier becomes fully automatic. You should never have to empty the machine again.

Limitations ======================

A de-humidifier will not operate efficiently if the room temperature is below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Below this temperature the cooling coils will begin to frost up and very little moisture will be removed from the air. This usually occurs at the same time of year as you begin to feel the need to turn on the furnace. Some de-humidifiers even have a sensor to turn them off when the room temperature is too low.

If the amount of water being removed by the de-humidifier drops off suddenly, suspect the room temperature. If this slowing of water production seems to occur earlier in the season than last year, then also suspect a dirty filter or a de-humidifier that requires maintenance.

Bonus ======================

As an aside to the above advantages of the de-humidifier there is one other. Free distilled water. That water you are emptying from the de-humidifier is valuable. All the time the machine operates you have access to an unlimited supply of distilled water. Some people have a hose attached to the outlet of the de-humidifier drain. This way it drains into a clean pan or bottle which they put to use later.

Distilled water can be used in items such as the steam iron, or other appliances that require de-mineralized water. Others use it for watering household plants. So don't buy distilled water for the house when you can get it for free.

Baby Nursery Decorating Tips and Ideas

!±8± Baby Nursery Decorating Tips and Ideas

Decorating your newborn's room is one of the things you can go overboard with. Don't get me wrong, it should be nice and reflect a baby's point of view but don't over do it. This article will give you some decorating tips and other ideas to consider when getting started on the nursery.

Parents decorate based on different things. Just because you're expecting a girl doesn't mean you'll be forced to decorate based on a "Pink Princess" theme. Same thing goes for a boy. Your theme can be based on a number of things.

Here are some movie based themes:

The Lion King

Toy Story

Finding Nemo

Winnie the Pooh

Some character and toy based themes:

Dora the explorer

Legos

Barbie

Bob the Builder

If you prefer to steer clear of movies, characters and toy based themes don't worry. Here are some fun ideas that your little bundle of joy will grow to love.

Airplanes

Trains

Dolls

Sunshine

Clouds

Stars

Sports (basketball, football, racing, baseball, etc)

Rainbows

Animals (cats, dogs, butterflies, ladybugs, etc.)

Fun shapes and patterns

Keep in mind that the theme you select should be common enough to find easily. It will be very frustrating to have a theme that's not complete because it's too difficult to find in stores. Consider something like Winnie the Pooh or Mickey Mouse. These characters are available in most baby stores. We recommend you keep it simple and fun.

There are many more to chose from. The possibilities are unlimited. No matter what theme you choose, your little one will need some furniture. Here are the basic pieces for you to build your theme around.

Crib

Mattress

Dresser

Changing Table

With these basic pieces of furniture out of the way, you can add some more accessories as you see fit. Some accessories are to make the baby more comfortable but most of these accessories are to provide parents with a better sense of security and comfort. For example, the baby monitor is to be in tune with how your baby is doing while in his or her crib or bassinet. The ottoman and rocking chair are added comfort. No matter the item they all serve a purpose and will add that special touch that you are looking for. Here are come of my favorite accessory pieces:

Rocking Chair

Ottoman

Baby Monitor

Diaper Disposer

Hamper

Rocker

Bassinet

Humidifier

Air Purifier

Night Light

Lamp

Curtains

Wall Paper

Trash Can

When decorating your babies nursery, keep in mind that children grow fast. As they get older they will need their living space to grow and change as they do. Understandably there are some pieces that you cannot go with our, but try to make your best attempt to choose accessories that can be removed, updated or replaced easily.

Foam Mattress Pads For A Better Night's Sleep

!±8± Foam Mattress Pads For A Better Night's Sleep

Foam mattress pads are perfect for providing a temporary solution to a problem. You know you need a new mattress, but it's just not in the family budget right now. Yet you just can't sleep with springs poking you in the back or a big sway in the middle of the bed. Of course without proper sleep you are certainly not at your best and at times, are almost non-functional. Your co-workers notice you yawning and maybe even nodding during the day. Yes a lack of sleep is a serious problem, and a foam mattress pad could be the answer to that problem.

The good news is that these pads are available just about anywhere beds are sold and certainly there is a huge selection online. Just pick one out that matches the size of your bed and you're good to go. They're simple to use. If you can make your bed (and assuming you don't still live with your mother you probably can) then you can use a pad. It just sits on top of your current mattress and is held firmly in place by your fitted sheet. What could be easier?

More difficult perhaps is choosing the right foam mattress pad. There are many types available. The egg crate pad has been popular for a long time and is your least expensive option. You would think that with those ridges it would be uncomfortable but it is not. And it's certainly more comfortable than sleeping on your old mattress that needs to be replaced anyway. These are also some of the least expensive if your budget is really tight.

More expensive (but not nearly as costly as a new mattress) is the memory foam pad. By now you've probably heard about how memory foam works. These pads will conform to your body shape and add extra support where you need it. When the budget permits, we recommend going with a memory foam mattress, but for now, the pad will do. As a side note, you should also look into memory foam pillows to go with your new pad.

There are however some drawbacks to foam mattress pads. For starters, they are almost impossible to wash. Water will damage the pads and make them almost unusable. If the pad gets too dirty, your best bet is to simply replace it. But chances are that won't happen until you're ready to get that new mattress we've been talking about.

Just to be safe you can fit a plastic sheet over the mattress, but you'll just have to try this for yourself. For some the plastic will make it hard to sleep since it can make noise whenever you roll over. If it keeps you from sleeping then you're defeating the purpose of getting a foam mattress pad.

One final thought, why not get a pad for every bed in the house. It just might help your kids sleep better too, and I think most parents would agree it's a lot easier to sleep when the kids are sleeping soundly as well.

Celebrities and Their Bedrooms

!±8± Celebrities and Their Bedrooms

We're all curious about the lives of the rich and famous, right down to the smallest details such as what kind of bed they sleep in or how much sleep they need. A look through the pictures of celebrities' bedrooms in the glossy magazines reveals a wide variety of bedroom furniture styles and sleeping habits.

Former Philippines First Lady, Imelda Marcos, for example, enjoys the kind of opulence in her bedroom that you'd expect from a lady famous for her extensive shoe, gown and jewellery collection. Glittering chandeliers hang over a magnificent four poster bed, with an elaborately carved headboard and red velvet hangings.

By contrast, royal couple Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have opted for simple furnishings in the bedroom of their 12-acre estate in Wales. The ordinary-looking bed has a plain square headboard in a pale colour and the décor throughout is light and neutral.

Celebrities crave luxury when on the road as well as at home, and only the best hotel bed will do. The 5 Star Lowry Hotel in Manchester, UK raised money for Comic Relief by auctioning one of their beds that had been slept on by celebrities including Oasis, Kylie, Prince and Tom Jones. The luxurious king size bed came with 20g Egyptian cotton sheets, feather pillows, a white Italian bedspread and a charcoal wool blanket.

Some celebrities are keen for their taste in bed linen to be shared with the rest of us. Katie Price, aka Jordan, recently launched her own range of bed linen, featuring pink designs covered in hearts. Kylie Minogue's range was inspired by an eiderdown from the 1930s that she found on eBay, vintage fabrics, a hand-painted book of Japanese kimono designs and the silk and crystal-studded panelled wall of her own bedroom.

Not all beds are to everyone's taste. Music producer Mark Ronson has a fear of bunk beds, to the extent that he once passed out on one. The incident took place when he went to summer camp as a child. 'I got there and, with my fear of heights, found all the lower bunks taken,' he told newspaper the Daily Star. 'I remember going to bed and waking up in the night - just in time for everything to go black.'

Celebrities and their sleeping habits

What do the rich and famous wear in bed? Marylin Monroe famously claimed she wore nothing but a splash of Chanel No. 5. Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has a less glamorous story to reveal. She wears white cotton gloves and thick socks in bed in an attempt to slow down the ageing process. Victoria says, "I put really thick foot lotion on with socks before I go to sleep. I also use thick hand cream with gloves at the same time. David (Beckham, her footballer husband) thinks I'm a loony, because I get into bed with gloves and socks on."

Celebrities may sleep under silk sheets and fine linen, but that doesn't stop them having messy habits like the rest of us. TV chef Nigella Lawson tells Oprah magazine:" I do not always practice what I preach and sit down to eat with all my family but rather feed them and then sneak upstairs to eat my supper in bed. I compound this sin, but also my pleasure, by not having a tray; I love beautiful linens and adore my bed, but I am uncaring about the spillage and drips and crumbs I leave in my lazy, greedy wake."

How much do celebrities sleep? Singer Mariah Carey spends more time in bed than most of us can dream of. "I've got to sleep 15 hours to sing the way I want to," she told Interview magazine last year. She also protects her voice by using humidifiers. "Literally, I'll have 20 humidifiers around my bed," she told V magazine. "Basically, it's like sleeping in a steam room." Humidifiers are useful in the bedroom to moisten dry air and soothe sore throats, though one is enough for most people!

Politicians may be a breed apart when it comes to sleep, as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was able to get by on just four hours a night. Winston Churchill, however, used to catch up on his lack of sleep by taking a nap during the day. Others are reported to have followed his lead, including Bill Clinton, John. F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.
